Polar Bears
With a mere 22000 - 25000 Polar Bears remaining worldwide why are we still shooting polar bears?!

Like no other animal, the polar bear represents the Arctic. Mention Global Warming and you get a yawn. Talk about the iconic polar bear losing his habitat and we conscientiously change our lightbulbs and our driving habits.
But given the fact that the Arctic ice is definitely melting at a fast rate than ever before, it may be too late to do much about the disappearing icy home of the polar bear. According to scientists who have studied the polar bear extensively, global warming alone is NOT the greatest threat to the polar bear: Man and his guns are.

I was astonished to learn that Canada still allows the "harvest" of polar bears. The Canadian government issues "tags" to Inuit communities to allow these communities to exercise their traditional hunts of polar bears. However, it appears that it is far more lucrative to sell these tags to trophy hunters for sums up to $30000. Undoubtedly these dollars pumped into struggling communities in the north are a valuable income source; However, since when is the polar bear an economic entity?!

A quick search of the internet will point to companies willing and able to take your money in exchange of the "ulimate adventure" of stalking and killing this magnificent animal. The largest of these companies are not Canadian but are operating within Canada and killing our bears.
One Alaskan company, for example, invites hunters to "Join us on the adventure of a lifetime for the thrill of chasing the Arctic's greatest trophy animal, the polar bear!"
Check out the photos to see images of smug macho hunters beside the bloody carcass of the bear, man victorious over beast. Egos gratified at the expense of the polar bear. All you need is money.

Experts estimate that around 1,000 of the world's 22,000-25,000 remaining polar bears are killed each year in this manner.

I have travelled extensively in the icy home of the Polar Bear both in the Canadian and Russian Arctic. Polar bears know no political boundaries.
