Lee Treloar is a travel
photographer and writer based in Abbotsford, British Columbia. She received her
first camera at the age of ten and has been seeing the world through a
viewfinder ever since.
Lee Treloar is a true
globe-trotter; she has captured images on all seven continents, but it is her
exploits and adventures in the polar regions, that put Lee in a league of
her own.
Lee's polar passion was born on a voyage to the Canadian Arctic and Greenland
in 1999. Her inner aperture was opened up a few stops on that journey and since
that time, she has circumnavigated both the Arctic and the Antarctic continent
on more than a dozen expeditions.
From polar bears to penguins, from the walrus to the albatross, Lee's work
captures some of the most remote and stunningly beautiful areas on
the globe.
In the Arctic and Antarctic, photography is a 24 hour-a-day event: the light
and colours are a magical palette for the artist. At the same time, the cold
polar climate gives rise to some extreme photographic challenges and unexpected
adventures.
Lee's images have a significant urgency in a time of a rapidly changing
polar environment. Lee's aim is to educate and to inspire us to be stewards
of the fragile ecosystems on our beautiful blue planet.
Lee's articles and images have appeared in The Vancouver Sun,
The Globe and Mail, Our Canada magazine and featured in CAPA's Canadian
Camera magazine. Her icy images have illustrated books, calendars and
magazines and she has shown her work in a number of galleries. Lee gives
photographic workshops to audiences across Canada and is an active member
of the Abbotsford Photo Arts Club and Canadian Association of Photographic
Arts. Lee has been honored as a Member International of The Explorers
Club of New York.
